Style theory is concerned with the style that leaders use when interacting with others.
Distributive leadership is concerned with spreading the leadership role with others in a team.
Leadership style theories explain that a successful leader will have a style or behaviour.
Kurt Lewin has identified three main styles of leadership:
Autocratic / Authoritarian - The leader imposes their will and says ‘Do this’.
Democratic / Participative - The leader has an open discussion with the group and says ‘Let’s solve this together’.
Free rein / Delegative / Laissez-Faire - The leader lets the group make decisions and says ‘You sort this out’.
